A.J. Ponder's Worlds of Adventure

Fantasy adventure

Hi,

I hope you’ve had a great week and wherever you are you have the perfect place to escape on a book adventure. Here it's the perfect weather here for cups of hot cocoa and snuggling up with a book. But part of me would like to escape to somewhere warm and spread out under a shade umbrella maybe with cocktails on the beach and a whole pile of reading. I've never done it before, but it does seem that it would be a lovely thing to do—even if I'd miss my cats. And what would Herbert do in the evenings if he wasn't trying to curl up on my lap while I'm eating dinner?

In writing news, WARNING SPOILERS! If you haven't read The Sylvalla Chronicles I suggest you skip this and/or quickly read the series—it's available on Amazon and wide, including audio!

I'm still working on my as yet untitled story, where my poor inventor, Torri, from the epic fantasy series, has been dumped into a steampunk world. But rereading Omens has reminded me that she's not only there against her wishes, but she's still injured with an arrow in her leg! This is going to make her arrival on Steam Island even bumpier than I first thought. I'm so happy, and just a little bit shocked. Poor Torri. She's had quite the day. And all of a sudden it makes sense that my one-handed inventor and loom weaver, Patricia, is going to take pity on her.

And the really fun thing about reading her parts in Omens is that not only do I get a good feel of her and what she's been up to, but it also reminded me about why I loved her so much as a character. She's endlessly relentless and inventive, "scribbling on the silk dresses with ink and charcoal" when captured and kept from her inventions. Earnest. Versatile. And no nonsense. Just the type of friend everybody needs, and for a story character, the hint of a mystery in her past is fun, too. Although as the author, I'm pretty sure I know what it is. Probably. I suspect it will fleshed out a little more during the writing of this book. ;)

This week:

  • Dragon out and about...Wevy the Wyvern
  • What I'm reading: Twisted Familiar by LM Hatchell
  • Sci Fi and Fantasy promotions-free and free on Kindle
  • The cats: Maisie and Herbert snuggling (hey it's cold here!)

Dragons out and about — Wevy the Wyvern

Wevy the Wyvern is a one of a kind dragon.

Although to be honest, Wevy's not his real name, but Wyventus Micatio'venti is a bit of a mouthful. One could even say it is a little long winded—especially as it means something along the lines of the playfulness of the flickering wind in one of the more obscure dragon dialects.

Wevy is one of the first dragons of the third age, but that doesn't stop him enjoying a bit of bling. He's the dragon (or wyvern) that you want running your party. And although he'll strut it on the dance floor for a short turn, especially if there's a disco light—and who are we kidding, he's always goes to bring the disco light—he very aware of making everyone at home, including the younger dragons.

What I'm reading: Twisted Familiar by LM Hatchell

Jeremiah Snufflekins is a brat of a familiar.

Snooty, annoying, and since his heart was broken, he does not want to play nice.

It's a fun idea, and the adventure heats up as the story goes on. I think it's a bit of an origin story, so perfect for readers who love the Feline Familiar Society series, or someone who wants to read a story with a cat as the main character, which is fun.

Twisted Familiar, is just one of the fun cosy/cozy stories in the Cosy Up with Adventure Fantasy promo. If you enjoy cosy from time to time, it's well worth checking out.

Herbert and Maisie

Herbert snuggled up on his blanket. My goodness it's cold today.

The perfect day for blankets & for humans a little hot cocoa.

Maisie showing off a little tongue blip. Reckon she's thinking about the dinner she just ate. Must have been tasty.

Happy reading!

Fantasy adventure Hi, I hope you’ve had a great week with lots of fantastic reading. I have to admit, I've really enjoyed my latest read, The Astral Library, and have moved onto Hemlock and Silver by T Kingfisher. Which has started with a poisons expert, and a scene that gave me flashbacks to "The Apothecary Diaries" a show that I watched with my eldest last time they came home for a visit. Of course, besides taking poison in their role as poison experts, the characters are very different, so...
