A.J. Ponder's Worlds of Adventure

Fantasy adventure

Hi,

I hope you’ve had a great week. And you've been reading some great books.

Thank you for your reading suggestions. Now I'm not even sure where to start!

Hemlock and Silver by T Kingfisher
The Astral Library by Kate Quinn
A Resistance of Witches by Morgan Ryan
Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove
The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth
Books of the Raksura
Witch King and Queen Demon by Martha Wells

So, I was wondering which of these books do you think I should read next...or is there a great book that's missing from that lineup that I should add to my list?

In writing news, I'm exploring the connections between the steampunk world with Torri my inventor, and the Great Library with Sapphyre, Widget and their friends with their mission to help their demon friend fit in. Currently, I'm not a hundred percent sure the two storylines will work together, or if they're going to end up being separate stories. Currently I believe Widget, the gremlin, is the key to both the worlds. And I'm keen to unravel her secrets. But if Torri's story does end up being separate from Sapphyre and the demon's, after all, it'll probably end up being an email exclusive, so that will be fun! :)

This week:

  • Dragon out and about: Blue Steel
  • What I'm reading: Good Witch Bad Witch —by ISA Medina and Desserts & Dragons by Bo Huffman
  • Two FREE Sci Fi and Fantasy promotions
  • The cats: Maisie and Herbert

Dragons out and about — Blue Steel

Blue Steel is the original poser.

Look at him, he loves to strut his stuff, even when I've crushed him up against the lavender.

Blue Steel is a tiny fae dragon who prefers to make a statement with a single bluish silver colour rather than camoflage in with the scenery or flash rainbow colours.

And as we all know fae dragons are particularly hard to photograph. Despite posing so nicely it took me six shots to get one vaguely in focus! :)

WHAT I'm Reading: Good Witch Bad Witch —by ISA Medina and Desserts & Dragons by Bo Huffman

Hope is a not very strong witch making her way in a world where magic is commonplace, but magic users and other supernatural creatures have to work by different.

Buoyed by her grandmothers sayings, and a whole lot of positive self-talk she's managed to get herself the title to a tea shop/potion store.

Only problem is someone is trying to sabotage the store. It's a fun little romp as danger and a hot bounty hunter wold shifter complicate things.

I love the cover on this one so much. Such a cute wee dragon!

It's a fun little read if you're looking for a fantasy world bake-off competition.

The writing is a little stiff, and I found it a little hard to get into, even the mystery ingredients the bakers needed to bake without seemed a little forced. But as someone with food in tolerances, I appreciated that they weren't made fun of, but treated seriously.

A crazy, silly, story that's a fast, fun and full of dragons.

Herbert and Maisie

Herbert under the table, you can see my laptop cord in the shot.

Late at night, if I'm in the front room and working, he likes snuggling under the blanket at my feet.

This picture of Maisie is a little ragged because the light was really bad.

She was hiding out in our room and making herself a little nest. So different from last week when she confidently out and about, she's all snuggly and looking for attention.

Happy reading,
A.J. Ponder

Fantasy adventure Hi, I hope you’ve had an amazing week. I've been busy with my job as convenor of Te Pae Tawhiti, interviewing our judges for the website, organising the convenor manual and just generally ticking off formatting jobs like Into Treachery for paperback. Now live! And Eileen Mueller's Dragon Battle paperback, which will be live soon! Not to mention the Dragon Transport and Pacification Society! Also in exciting news, I've organized the art for the new covers of the Blood of the...

Fantasy adventure Hi, I hope you’ve had an amazing week and wonderful break over Easter, however you celebrate. I'm looking forward to our family's Easter Sunday egg-cracking tradition. Knocking boiled eggs against each other to see whose egg lasts the longest without cracking. It's a strange but fun tradition my husband's family brought with them from Lithuania almost a century ago. Oh, and, yes, this is the new-look email from KIT. Finally I've managed to get it up and running. I hope you...
